Any one play or have knowledge of the MORRELL brand of Lap Steel. I have not seen one but have opertunity to pick one up new for $229.95 original price $329.95. It is a 6 sstring would preferr an 8 string but Hay.

I have one of those,I play it lots, but be aware that Morrell has quality control issues and a reluctance to admit it or do anything to help a guy out. I replaced the nut with stainless steel angle. The fretboard was marked where the nut was supposed to go but whoever was running the router missed it by 1/2" so the intonation was out big time. The paint on mine is poorly done The tuners are garbage.
Mine is made out of maple and I have had no issues with the Kent Armstrong hot rails pickup.Like Brad says, there are better ones in that price range. |

Wayne,,, check out some of the laps that Hugo Tremblay is building. The price point is about the same but you will find the quality to be MUCH higher than Morrell.

Wow- those look great! I was thinking that you could make a nice double neck console steel with the skinnier lap steels. (Like the butcher block one- unusual!)
It looks like he uses the same bridges that Morrell uses- nothing wrong with the bridges. One problem with the 8 string Maple from Morrell is that the lipstick pickup is not long enough- you don't get full volume with the 1st and 8th strings. I believe that they first make the body, cut the routs and finish the steel, and after that they silk-screen the graphics onto the body, in many cases a bit crooked, offset or skewed (they sell those as seconds). Personally I think that the strings are too close together on the 8 stringer. At the time I didn't know of any better deals. (But now I do  )
