Not exactly country, but they were country; probably more than they wanted to admit.

Always loved this band.

Here are two favorites...

AMAZING GRACE: http://picosong.com/e45
OUT OF THE SNOW: http://picosong.com/e4c

Great clips Chip. Nothing they couldn't do. My alltime favorite band. I've got a ton of their stuff and listen to it regularly.

Anybody that can sing Amazing Grace [used to be her favorite song], Life's Railway to Heaven, Give me Flowers, etc. then turn around and do a Taj Mahal, or Al Green R & B number with authority earns my eternal respect many times over. Blues, reggae, country, bluegrass, swing, whatever, they just did great music.

Fabulous band with Russell's vocals, Byrd's steel, and all the rest...... just top shelf.

I love that they always had some steel on their lp's through the years. Either Byrd, Duncan, Jim Vest or whoever.

Jerry,

You know. You really know. You got it.

These cats did it all.

As you say, they could play any kind of music; and with authority and integrity.

To me it was frightening. When someone first played me some of their famous rock-ish songs [Third Rate Romance] etc., I just said, well OK, that's good. That's good.

Then later on, years later on, I was somewhere and the Aces were playing [on a turntable]; and I heard their country side.

I did a back-flip summersault. WOW!. Because by this time, I was playing steel [or trying to]; and that cat playing steel, as well as those great songs, just knocked me out.

What a band. They were AMAZING!!!

Our band still plays "Third Rate Romance". I had forgotten all about "Amazing Grace". That one dropped off our song list a long time ago.

Didn't they do 'The End Is Not In Sight'? That one is one of my faves. I used to sing it a back in the 80s.
