hi! recently found a sealed yazoo lp of king bennie nawahi on the'bay....just loved the track "hawaiian capers", but what the hell is going on in the middle section - sounds like a mild fuzz with some kind of gated compression going ? so horn-like in a strange kind of way! amazing...apparently he's playing a frypan.

That is a great track off one of my favorite comps. Not a frypan, though. Bennie was known for playing an early National wood body Triolian--round neck, but he played it lap style of course.

I think the "fuzz" sound you hear is the result of Bennie switching to the low strings for that section, and the recording techniques of that time capturing a National single cone being driven hard.
