Steel Guitar players and Facebook......................

Hardly a day goes by that I do not get an email,

"....... wants to be your friend on facebook."

Ok, I believe MOST of those are spammed emails, and NOT from those I know and love, as well as those who truly want to be my friend that I don't know.

Players, I do NOT do "facebook". I stopped cold Turkey several years ago. I do not have time for spam interlaced in with good intentions.

When I get an email stating that George Jones and Reba McIntyre wants to be my friend, I am OUT OF HERE! GJ RM, etc, etc, do not know I exist!

So be advised, that if facebook was a truly caring internet entity, I would gladly become friends with anyone on it. But that is NOT the case.

So please do not think I am being rude or calous, when I do not respond to sincere emails.

Also, I am NOT going to try to police scam artists, IN Face book and outside it, to try and pick some wheat out of tons of chaff.

Thanks for understanding,

c.

Carl , I never get facebook "add friends" spam. Those people probably really just want to be your facebook friend. If you are done with facebook you can delete your account. That way you wont offend legit friendship seekers by snubbing them and you wont have anymore emails coming from facebook at all (except the ones that say "So and So has invited you to JOIN facebook").

Thank you Ben,

I was about to do that that the other day, when the Lord (I am sure) led me to a news article about that very scenario.

In the article, the author gave step by step instuctions as to just HOW difficult it is to really close out a facebook account. And even he had to admit that in all too many cases, it is a case of futility.

For Facebook has deliberately imbedded into its software, with malace of forthought; EVERY nuance of "road blocks", that will make it dang near impossible to fulfill.

I looked at the steps. And I said, "Forget about it!" I have not got time for that satan-led, Godless charade. I have a better way, I will simply ignore ANY email that comes from Facebook and let my spam filter block it. Which is what I am going to do, after this thread has reached as many as it can.

But thanks for your concern dear brother, I am sure you cared. And for that I am eternally greatful for you friend,

Facebook is not about your intimate personal friends.
It is a social network that is a fantastic networking tool. I know almost all of the "friends" I have (~1000)on facebook. Some I met thru the forum, some thru years of playing, some are just folks I know from practicing medicine in a small town for many years. I am a Christian man. I really don't think Facebook is a Godless, satan led entity.

You do understand that there are multiple layers of "friends" and their access to your site? I don't recall getting any spam/bogus type requests, but I did get a couple of friend suggestions that were porn related. I reported them and blocked them. No big deal...
I do have some celebrity types as friends... but that is because I have worked with them in the past.

I welcome any steel guitar player as a FB friend. :)

This'll probably cause lock-down, but Facebook is certainly not Godless. I may be, but I have many FB pals who are God daft.

Members emails addresses are accessible here on the forum--why does one need another media, intermediary or layer to contact a forum friend??

Amen.

Those that like facebook, have at it, and enjoy it to whatever floats yer boat.

I want NO part of it. In my life style, email is more than sufficient. I believe Facebook is "Godless", because it allows and promotes "porn"; and then expects its members to police it; and then stoops to satan led tactics; when you desire to leave them; so as to ultimately HOLD you in their clasp. The SAME as AOL did for years, before the government stepped in and put a stop to it. Call that what you wish dear person, I called that "bondage"

To each his own. :)

Carl, you can change the settings so facebook doesn't send you any emails, and it's not so irritating. Still Godless, but less annoying.

Won't your email program let you block messages from Facebook?

Closed at Carl's request.
