The Name “Rhodes” And Steel Guitars,

The more posts that I read on this forum, another player by the name of Rhodes appears. Is there something about the name Rhodes that connects with steel guitars?

So far I have read post on Red Rhodes, Rusty Rhoads, Bobby C Rhodes, Kyle Rhodes (son of Bobby C Rhodes ), Leon Rhodes, Buck Rhodes and another well known name that I can’t remember. What is it with this name that draws them to steel guitars?

Aren't some of those spelled differently? Aren't some of them not Steel Players? I don't understand the correlation.

The only one who is not known for steel guitar was Leon Rhodes: he did however, play the steel guitar. Bobby C Rhodes was a steel guitarist, Kyle Rhodes is a steel guitarist, Rusty Rhodes is steel guitarist, Buck Rhodes is/was a steel guitarist and Red Rhodes is a steel guitarist.

With all due respect, which one is spelled wrong and which one of those named above does not play a steel guitar?

If you are related to Carrot Top then you must be related to the late Jimmy Anderson, my friend and fine steel man....

I am not related to Les Anderson (Carrot Top) but I did visit with him and his wife Betty a fair bit before he passed away. He lived about two hours from our home. The man sure had a lot of personal stories to tell about many of the artists he worked with; some happy and funny while others of the dark personalities of some of these stars of yesteryear.

I am not sure where his wife Betty is now. I would imagine living with friends or in a retirement home.

I don't think it's anything in the name. I just love the sound of it. It was a six-string player who got me interested, though: Alan Holdsworth.

As far as I know, there's no relation to any of the Rhodeses mentioned above.

I don't associate the name 'Rhodes' with steel guitar. Instead I think of Harold Rhodes, one of the inventors the electric piano.

Hi Les. Our band played a three day gig at the old danceland hall at Manitou Beach this summer. The place was packed on all three days. Mind you, everything was fine until they opened the back door that hangs over the water to let some fresh air in. It cleared everyone away from the back door.

When I see "Rhoads" I think of Ozzy's late, great 6-stringer, Randy Rhoads.

I have been asked 50 million times if i am related to randy rhodes or leon and i am like no sir no maam .
And i'am not really a Rhoads but it works for a name

As most know, it's quite common to change one's name in the entertainment industry. Marion Robert Morrison is one of my all time heroes, but most know him as John Wayne. I doubt it's limited to the film industry.
