Hi Doug,
Just got back from NYC where Mike Stern was performing at the Iridium Jazz club. Mike is just the most awesome jazz guitar player on the planet!(IMHO)And always surrounds himself with the best players. ANYWAY...I gave him a copy of "Jazz by Jernigan". Can't wait to see what he thinks of it! Wish there were more players like you, playin Jazz on steel. Thanks & keep it up! Todd K. Bethel/D-10 9&9 |

Thanks Todd;
I really appreciate the compliment, and thanks for passing along my JBJ CD. I don't
have the oppurtunity to play the C neck all in one setting, so I am looking forward to Feb.8. Doug Jernigan |

Doug,
If you want a great meal down that way check out "The Laughing Cat" in Ybor city. Some of the best Italian food I have had outside of Italy. Cheap too.
Also, what the heck do we got to do to get you to NYC ?!

Bob, I will tell Jimmy Lyons about the Italian restaurant. Maybe we can go there on Saturday after I get to Tampa. I'm nervous enough about playing an all Jazz venue in Tampa, I don't know if I am ready for the "Big Apple".
There is too many Jazz Heavy Weights there.
Thanks again---Doug |

Doug...Seems to me that you did some jazz things with a few of the big name jazz guitarist's in Dallas,
Texas about 26 or 27 years ago.
You sure held your own then so I, for one, think that you are ready to take on the Big Apple and have been for a long time.

One of the best things that could happen to steel guitar right now is to have the great Doug Jernigan out on tour in the jazz circuit showing how its done on steel guitar. This needs to be done and I'm glad that you are doing it Doug. This is GREAT, FABULOUS news. Now we're going to hear something. |

Thanks Dave. The guitar player you are reffering to
is Bucky Pizzarelli. We did a record together not to long after your show in Dallas. I really enjoyed doing the Jazz concert in Florida. We had a pretty good turn out as well as some incredible players I got to work with. Doug |

Doug I lived and played some jazz in NYC for several years.
I saw you live twice at Scotty's ISGC this year.
I ain't gonna say you could wipe the floor with all those NYC cats...
BUT you could go in there and impress a whole bunch of them.
There are many with their minds open, and a few closed, you would never get the latter,
but you would go over very well with the right band.
No doubt in my mind.
I would like to see a

Thanks David. Playing Jazz in the Big Apple
may be a possibilty with the right rhythm
section as well as a good place to play.
I played in the Village with Vasser Clements many years ago, and we had a great response
playing Bluegrass, and Swing as well as a few Jazz tunes. I may give Bucky a call, and see what he thinks. Doug |

I saw Bucky with Stephane Grappelli at the Blue Note a few years back and was literally inches from Stephane's left foot as he sat to play.
Bucky P. was oh about 5 feet away.
This ranks as one of my favorite shows of all time.
Pure musicallity.
Stephane remembered me later in the week at Le Orchstra des Contresses de Paris concerts, and again later in Paris.
Now oddly enough I started the morning listening to Hillybilly Jazz with you and Vasser, which I found waiting for me when I got home last night,
and then Stephane with David Grissman lIve at the Berklee.
Some fine music to start the day!!
You with Bucky and Ray Brown or Ron Carter or Dennis Irwin ( too many to name here), with Lenny White or another fine drummer, maybe add Richie Bierach on piano
and that's a great set.[This message was edited by David L. Donald on 10 February 2004 at 02:15 PM.] |

Also, Bucky's son John would be a nice addition to the proposed musical tapestry.
