I realize the horizon is never reached, but what do any of you have to say about Matchless Amps? I never see any discussion or have heard of any steelers using them as I believe they are directed toward the guitar player rather than steel player, however, having read so may posts praising Fender Twins, I was curious to get your thoughts if these were a viable choice. Thanks.

I had a Matchless Chieftain I used for guitar. Incredible tone w/ my Tele. I tried it w/ steel and found it to be not so good for the typical "Nashville" sound. It breaks up nicely, if that's what you want in a steel amp.

The 1x12 is brutally heavy, the 2x10 is even worse. Also, they usually cost an "arm and a leg"! If you're thinking botique tube amp, I'd call Ken Fox.

I have a DC-30. For guitar there's not much I can add to what's already been said and written about them. Plug in, hit a chord and your first reaction is "Whoa!"

For steel? It doesn't do it for me. Different animal.

I've got a Matchless amp and it sounds good for steel it has 2 12" speakers in it. But its heavy like a twin maybe a little more. Super clean sound and a great sounding reverb. But it doesn't sound any better than a Nashville 1000 or some of the other steel amps out there. I got for guitar but it turned out good for steel too.
