Silverface Twin Speaker Question: 50 Watts? (Weber 12F150T)

Hey,

I need to replace the stock oxfords in my 75 twin and am looking at some 50 watt 8 ohm Weber 12F150T speakers. Question I have is are two 50 watt speakers going to be enough for the 100 watt twin? I never get it passed 4 or 5 live so I don't think I'll blow them. Just want to make sure they won't break up at 4 or 5 for use with steel.

Used to have a Twin with Weber California's that were 80 watts and they worked wonderfully. What am I giving up with 50 watts?

Thanks!

Ben,

I put these in my 135 watt twin at Ted Weber's suggestion. Haven't blown 'em (yet!), and my band occasionally plays pretty darn loud. I'm not putting a C6 through them, however.

50 Watts per speaker will be fine. Remember, the amp is "seeing" the speakers as a single load, so combined, the speakers can handle 100 watts. Remember to use a total load of 8 ohms.

Correct.
Two 8 ohm speakers wired in parallel equal 4 ohms.

What do you mean you never go past 4 or 5 ? Come on, live a little ! I believe the stock speakers in the new RI Twins are the 50 watt Gold Label Emmi's , that's what I put in my 71 Twin and what came in the Hot Rod Deville ( stock) the old Utah's just don't have what it takes for 2010 ! great amp, turn it up !

I'm not good enough to go past 4 yet. I figure the better I get the louder I'll get and when I'm at 10 I'll just learn banjo or something.

Just promise us you won't turn the banjo up to 10!
