As many of you know, back in the mid-seventies I produced a concert in Dallas, Texas at Dewey's Longhorn Ballroom. It was called 'Dave Burley's Cavalcade Of Guitars.'
What a lineup....This is sort of historical for the steel guitar. 13 musicians on the stage at the same time for two seperate jam sessions. All live but mixed in the studio.
I am in the process of getting this cd ready for release......Buddy Emmons, Les Paul, Curly Chalker, Tal Farlow, Maurice Anderson, Bucky Pizzarelli, Doug Jernigan, Herb Ellis, Julian Tharpe, Howard Roberts, Johnny Gore, Slam Stewart and Louis Bellson. It was not released before because one of the musicians decided, after the fact, that he would not sign a release. He is gone now so it will be released.
I have 70 copies of the original program book that was given out the night of the show. That book will be included with the first 70 orders.
The help I need is that I don't know how to promote this stuff. I have already released the Jimmy Bryant/Buddy Emmons cd along with the Curly Chalker/Julian Tharpe cd and the first recording with the steel players, 'It's The First Time.'
We have sold a few but not enough to continue on selling them. These are historical recordings for the pedal steel guitar. Five of the greatest jazz guitarists in the world, five of the greatest pedal steel guitarists in the world along with an all star rhythm section which included the legendary bassist, Slam Stewart and the legendary drummer, Louis Bellson. Google and of those names. Johnny Gore on saxaphone was also included.
I still have a few loose ends to take care of but I want this to be released while I am still living. It was the hardest concert I ever promoted in my life. I sometimes sit back and look at the lineup and wonder, myself, how I was ever able to pull this off but I did.
If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Once again looking at the stage, left to right.....Tal Farlow, Curly Charker, Herb Ellis, Maurice Anderson, Les Paul, Buddy Emmons, Howard Roberts, Doug Jernigan, Slam Stewart, Julian Tharpe and in the back was Bucky Pizzarelli, Johnny Gore and Louis Bellson.
Thanks,
Dave A. Burley
