I have a Session 500 w/ BW1501 that cuts out all by itself. If I turn volume up and hit the strings, it comes back but it is unbearable when trying to play in church or inside the quiet house. I have a brother with the same problem but with a Scorpion 15" speaker. Heard some say it's the speaker. SOMEONE HELP Sad

Connect a guitar cord between the Volume pedal out and the Volume pedal input on the front. If there is a bad "normal through" connection on the jack, that can be one problem spot. The effects loop on the rear is another and the preamp out/power amp in is another that can cause the same thing and putting guitar cords in them, one at a time can help in isolating the problem.

Molex connectors (internally) can also be an issue. Considering the age of a Session 500 (I bought one new when they first came out) if it's never been serviced it's overdue.

Dwight, on my old Session 500, I had the same problem but if I hit it on top with my fist or flat hand it would be OK. I took it to the local Peavey person who said it just needed "cleaned up". Whatever he did, it worked because I had it for 4 years after that before I sold it with no problem. There were no parts needed for it either, just a labor charge which wasn't too high as I remember.....JH in Va.

I had a similar problem. It was simply a short in the 1/4" ug that goes into the speaker Jack in the back. Replaced it and cleaned the Jack and it's worked sence. The vibration of the amp caused it to cut in and out.

I have the exact same problem with my Session 500. I've had mine apart and cleaned and tightened the molex connectors and the jacks. The problem is still there. I have heard that the problem could be a cold joint around the power transistors. I plan on checking this out soon, but for now, I enjoy scaring the hell out of my girlfriend by striking the strings real hard, and having the amp come back on screaming loud.

To my ears this is the best steel amp Peavey ever made.

Seem to have cleared itself for the last 2 months, then just last week it went out on me at home and every time I turn it on it does it every time. I think it is the best Peavey I have ever heard. But a pain wth this cutting out. I have a session 400 that does the same. Anyway. TTT

First off it's a 35 year old amp +/- .

If it has not been serviced you are asking for trouble especially if it is your primary gig amp.

Jack S mentioned connections above, spot on. All older Peavey amps are in the record books for having intermittent issues with connectors , jacks and plugs.

If you have not pulled the chassis or had someone do it for you , start here.

Pull the chassis, clean or replace the 1/4 jacks connectors, especially the multi-contact ones. Clean the reverb connector. Replace any connectors/jacks that are suspect.

I restore Fender SF and BF amps for reliable gig duty.., I especially love when I read or hear.." Don't replace the caps if the amp is working, wait until it fails " Hellloo... that Band Master is 46 years old with the original caps ! A $5 cap can take out a $200 transformer, the rectifier circuit, and more...

Maintenance for old amps...>>> required...
Especially on these really great old Peavey amps which I think are the best Steel amps out there.

My own Nashville 400, I do this chassis removal/maintenance once a year .

Ok. I tried it out again and the amp signed out in 10 min or so. I jumped all 1/4 jack input/outputs; nothing. Then I went to the speaker output jack and I pluggd it into the other jack for extended speaker and Whoa! it worked. I unplugged it and put it back in the original and no sound Sad , then I put it back in the ext. speaker jack and Whoa!; it worked again. I think I am on to something. Will keep you guys posted. I will check my Session 400 now.
Thanks fellas.

Dwight
