KEN -- I THINK THE PLAIN STRINGS ARE ACTUALLY STAINLESS. I USE GHS STAINLESS SETS, AND THE PLAIN STRING WRAPPERS JUST SAY "PLAIN STEEL STRING." I'M TALKING ABOUT GHS NOW, BUT THE BOOMER SETS AND THE STAINLESS SETS HAVE THE SAME UNWOUND STRINGS. JOHN.

Where do you get plain strings marked "stainless"? All of the brands that I sell (Jagwire, SIT, GHS and Black Diamond) do not offer "stainless" plain strings. The plain strings are the same in nickel and stainless packs - only the wound strings are different.

Yes indeed b0b. As far as I know, there is no such thing as a plain SS string for musical instruments. I was told why this is, a long time ago, but try as I may, I can't remember why.

Ed Packard, or any one else, do you know?

I would like to refresh my memory on this subject.

High quality stainless steel is has little or no iron in it, therefore it's non-magnetic, so the pickup wouldn't "hear" strings made of stainless steel.

Uh I knew that...
But when I was making a bulk plain string order..
I some how read it as a option..
Going back to re-investigate, yes the plain strings are only sold as plain.
For a minute there I was really on to something.

Thank you Ray. It all comes back to me now. I should have known that, cuz my late electronic compadre's would not be very proud of me today.

Gary it is just the opposite dear brother.

Plain strings are never stainless as far as I know.

And for the reasons fellow forumite Ray McCarthy gave.

But it has been my observation that more than just a few players believe that when it says stainless steel, it means the plain strings as well. NOT so.

These myths get started and they stick like glue. It's like:

1. Hal "Ruggs"

2. Del (some say "Dale") "Mullens"

NO "S's" in either of those names Mad

3. May---sh the pedal (I often wonder how thin the pedal is after one may---sh's it? Whoa! )

4. "There was NO cabinet drop before they came out with those danged tuners". (OH yes there was. Ask Buddy.)

5. "Shu cargo". (Better not say that in Chicago, for they are liable to tar and feather ya Laughing)

6. Nay--sh ville.( Surprised )

7. GIT' tar! (Grrrrrrrr)

8. I "caint" hear a "thang". (GRRRRRRR Crying or Very sad)

9. He's playing a "Slide" guitar! (Where is my pistol? Mad)

10. Boy, she can "SANG!" (@#$$%$##??)

And finally...

Grand "OLD" "opra"! (Now what did I do with that that one way ticket to Mars? Very Happy

Oh well!
