"Cry Me a River" on my new Oahu Tonemaster

Post by Steinar Gregertsen »

Here's a recording I just finished, nothing fancy, just a simple lap steel and guitar version of "Cry Me a River" just to test out the new Oahu Tonemaster.
No extra EQ in the mix, this is how it sounds through my POD XT, only added a little compression in the mix, that's all. Hope you'll enjoy it!

Haunting! Timbres of the two guitars and their contrast well suited to this tune. Some moments (0:59 to 1:02, and also later) in which you made the lap steel imitate a pedal steel. Enjoyed all of it.

Bravo!

It sounds terrific, Steinar. It's got a nice articulation to it and you can tell there's a nice growl underneath there. The timbres seems to reflect your picking positions very well.

Inspiring playing, Steinar. Every note. Love the tone of your lap steel.

Sounds great Steinar, however I have a bone to pick with you...why didn't you give us more of the fadeout? I love when you started ad-libbing on the outro. Seriously, you have such a great, unique voice on steel, and I really dig the space in your arrangement. Maybe your next album could be more guitar/steel duets like this...?

Does somebody have a new love? Excellent fat tone!
Amazing how great instruments find their way to great musicians.
I agree with Steve in all that he said, I would most definitely like to see you do a CD full of compositions of excellent tone and technique such as ths one.

Hauntingly beautiful. Reminds me of Mark Knopfler at his best.

Thanks a lot guys! :D

Early this spring I started thinking about doing a very 'quiet' project with as minimal instrumentation as possible, but then other gigs 'happened' and suddenly I was out playing power trio stuff on guitar instead. Again....

I've started thinking about the 'minimalist' project again now, I'd love the challenge of cutting down to the core of the music and find that place where every note counts.

Just outstanding Steinar ! I think the 'minimalist' CD concept is great. Your touch, tone and expression will carry every melody you attempt ! Go for it... please !

Man, I just floated away listening to that...

Such a smooth & languid style, great phrasing!
I totally agree with Mr Cunningham about the ad-libbing at the end... 8) more of that please!
