Several months ago the wife's DELL Dimensions Mdl.
E510 was hit by a virus........

The friendly folks in INDIA totally wiped out the functionality of the machine.

All of the MicroSoft OFFICE SUITE has been eliminated. She can't even write a simple letter.

Are there any solutions for this dilema? It came with all software installed and thus, we have no discs.

Any PC with Windows has 2 built-in word processing programs:

Wordpad and Notepad.

Notepad is very basic. Wordpad a bit more advanced and certainly suitable for writing a letter.

You could also download "Open Office", which is a free suite of programs quite similar to Office. It may be more than you need or want, but you can get it here:

Do you mean that your PC came with NO discs whatsoever? Or that you have lost them?

Dells should have some recovery mechanism built into them, probably from a hidden partition. Look at your owner's manual.

The recovery program is intended to restore your PC to the way it was on the day it was shipped---assuming you don't have any failing or failed hardware.

Someone like Jack Stoner on this forum can give you more details.

I gave up completely on Dell after having an atrocious experience with their Indian customer support maybe 5 years ago.
