I'm having a blast playing my Beard Goldtone dobro I got a month or so ago. I've been very focused learning pedal steel, but this has become a major distraction. Having played a few years with fingerpicks and playing some blues bottleneck in open G tuning are enabling me to pick up the basic idea quicker than I would have imagined. Big fun. My solid wood model Goldtone sounds great and I'd recommend one to anybody. Love the tone.

Brick, which Gold Tone Beard do you have, the maple or the mahogany?

The solid mahogany Goldtone. Does it sound as good as the $2500+ guitars? No, but plenty good enough.

Goldtone Beard model resonator guitars are one of the best bargains in the resophonic guitar world. They're definitely a step up from the Regal, Dean, etc. guitars. Goldtone hit the sweet spot in their pricing of these guitars. I own a Wechter Scheerhorn myself, but I sure do like these Goldtones.

I walked into the local music shop one day and there was this Goldtone Beard mahogany guitar on the wall. I got out my picks and bar and couldn't leave it there. I take it with me everywhere I go and that alone has made my playing improve in leaps and bounds. I took it to some festivals this summer and everyone loved it. I have '31 Dobro and it never gets out of the case now.

Our banjo player has a MA Beard, and it is a great guitar, and I love playing it, but it's not so great that it makes me not want to pick my Goldtone back up after playing it.

I'm going to take to Beard and have them do their tweaking job and install a pup, and I'm putting a Trilogy bridge on it.

I have had my Gold Tone with the Fishman p/u for several months and really enjoying it. Although I had been thinking of getting a MA Beard I'm beginning to think I have all I need right now. The Gold Tone is great sounding without having a bundle of money invested in it.

I have the Mahogony Goldtone as well and it is a beauty, I love the richness of the tone ...and my next upgrade will be to put a JD fishman saddle pickup in it! Best bang for your money you will get in a Reso.

I like my GoldTone Maple DeLuxe !

What is the difference between one set up at the Beard shop and an off-the-shelf unit, and is there a way to tell the difference (other than listening)?

Joe, we're not getting any younger. If you want the MA, just get it.

I also love my Beard Goldtone, at it beats hands down anything in it's price range, but I played a MA Beard at a jam last weekend and it simply had a sweeter, less congested tone, with a greater sustain up above the 12th fret.

I thought all the Gold Tone resos were set up at the Beard shop?

I recently got a laminated mahogany Gold Tone Beard to electrify because I didn't want to alter my old Regal Dobro or my Scheerhorn. It is very nice. I haven't done a shootout with the Scheerhorn yet, (that would require putting on new strings to make it a fair test, and that is too much like work ) but I think it is a great axe.
