Hey Bob...thanks for the post (PLUG) for the new C.D. and thanks for the kind words...it was certainly a fun project although we didn't get together at the same time in the studio...Bob M. and Greg G. and I did the tracks and then the steelers came in separately and did the solos...we were also fortunate enough to get Connie to sing Once A Day on that track. BTW, all the featured steelers will have the C.D. for sale, either on their web sites, (mine's not up yet) or thru the mail or however they choose to do it...I think Weldon is taking some to the E.T.Record Shop (He has the clout)...Also, the first 2oo of these are the pre-release version that J. Smith made up for the N.T.S.G.A. Jam....same C.D., different cover.

Got mine last weekend and have listened to it everyday and have to say it is great. And when ordering, go ahead and order "RUSS HICKS PICKS". "BLUE JADE" with Charlie McCoy on harmonica. And also get "TWO MILE PIKE" by Russ. "WALK DON"T RUN" on this one. You just gotta hear it. Everyone that I've let listen to these CDs have raved about 'em. You'd hard pressed to find any better cds
[This message was edited by Kenny Foy on 25 October 2003 at 03:44 PM.]

I love it too. This is the first time that I had ever heard of Jack Smith. This guy is good but, you can't leave out Russ and the rest of the gang. Let me plug Laney's tribute
to Connie Smith cd. What else can you say about Laney's singing other than great, plus Russ does some mighty fine pickin. I loved Russ's version of "I'll Come Running" intro & solo. If you ain't got it? GET IT!!!

When the song "I'll come Runnin" came out in the late 60s, Connie toured through California with the Ray Price package and Russ was Connie's steeler and he did that song proud and I still remember what a great job he did.

Tony-
I heard Jack Smith in Decatur, Ill.
He was touring with Connie, when she first started touring again. He's a pretty knocked-out picker.
Also, I have to agree with Kenny Foy 400% on
Russ Hicks' two CD's! If you ain't got 'em,
GET 'em! They are great! Also Russ' lovely
wife, Laney, has three CD's available that
are just as great. I'm glad to see these fine
people getting the recognition the so richly
deserve.
As soon as I can wangle some money out of
Mama, I'm going to order this new CD.

I would like to thank Russ for inviting me to play on the album. I was honored to work with Connie from 1986 - 1987 and I loved every minute of it. She is such a great lady and a better singer you will not find anywhere. It as fun to do the Album and I thank Russ and all involved for letting me do my small part.

Okay, you got Connie, but does Laney sing on any cuts. Image

This one sounds like one I'd like to have -- and thanks for the reminder. I also want to add a plug for Laney's (and Russ') Tribute to Connie. I've really been enjoying that one lately. 14 Connie Smith tunes with a whole lot of Russ on every cut.
