Hello-

just bought my first pedal steel, an MSA Pro AM Sidekick-
got a great deal, but it needs some repair to the
guitar frame, where the legs attach-there was a little crack where the screws went in and now the leg will always fall out when lifted-
I'd just like it to have a once over by someone who knows what's what, as I'm not there yet-
also, need to get new strings, thumb screw for the legs, etc-
the pick up, though shielded, is a little noisy-
anyone have Tone Aligner?

I'm right out side Boston and have heard there's someone in Fitchburg that is often recommended?

any thoughts?

Thanks!

The fellow out near Fitchburg is Tommy Cass (Casella). He's actually in Baldwinville just a bit further out. I know he does fantastic restorations and repairs. Not sure if he does the wood repairs, but it's worth a call. He can certainly look your guitar over and tell you what you will need. If he doesn't do the wood repair he will probably know who does. He's a great guy to deal with, and a heck of a steel player.

Tom is a member of the Forum so check the membership list for contact info. If you can't find contact info I'm sure Doug Beaumier out in Northhampton MA has it, and maybe some other suggestions for repairs.

Good luck, and come on down to the Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association's next meeting on Nov 20 See the website (www.RISGA.com) for details.

Lots of players use the George L pickups as replacements. I'm sure you can find some threads that discuss the pros and cons of various models.

There are so many choices in strings - brand, material, gage, plain or wound 6th etc. I have been using the Jagwire Mike Sigler E9 set, great sound and they take a beating. I tried the Jagwire Paul Franklin set buy it seemd too bright in the upper register - just my opinion. Which ever brand and type you select buy them from bOb here on the site. Super quick delivery and it helps fund the forum!
