i played my first paying gig on steel sat night on the faster stuff i picked up th old 52 tele we shared the lead parts i thought my steel sound was bad everyone else said it sounded good but i had to sit almost on top of my amp so maybe out front it did sound ok or either there were a lot of nice people there any way the country misfits were invited back in a couple of weeks that really did me some good and made me feel more at ease

Congrats mike! My first gig on the steel was very similar! but don't worry man, you'll almost always be the most critical of your sound. most people are just really excited to hear a real steel guitar!
What's that weird twangy slide thingy?

My first gig was a disaster. I sounded like I was SKINNING THE CAT so to speak. but as time passed I got better and better.Practice does help. Next month will be 31 years of playing. I don't do clubs anymore, most of the time I am either playing it at home or playing in the studio.I prefer doing studio work, You don't have to worry about drunks or fights with drunks. Or someone throwing a bottle at you while you are playing. In the studio I get to use my immagination, the engineer will tell me I need you to put something here to fill the gap or do an break that he'll like.
