Best cheap video editing software?

What is the best cheap video editing software for Windows XP? All I need to do is to take vidoes from different DVD's, trim them and burn them on one compilation DVD. Has anyone tried the free version of "Pinnacle"?

Windows Movie Maker is free and does those things and a bit more. An older version originally came with Windows XP. I downloaded a more recent version from Microsoft, and it runs fine here on XP.
