Have you heard Jeremy Wakefield's CD Steel Guitar Caviar? JW plays small group swing jazz of the first order here with amazing technical facility and beautiful Bigsby tone. His style is his own with a heavy tip of the hat to Vance Terry, Joaquin, Noel and various jazz horn players. It's not new but if you haven't heard JW check him out. Great stuff!

I've been struggling with tunings for the Fender 8 Dual pro, but after listening to this CD, I decided to go with Jeremy's set up that I got from your book Andy. Great CD.

Notice the 'EccoFonic' logo on the bottom of the cover?
Deke Dickerson did the recording.
Not only is the music played well, it sounds fantastic.
A great album.

Agreed, Jon, but not quite as fully realized as SGC, IMHO.

Thanks for the kind words on jeremy's CD. It was one of the easiest recordings I have ever done, because the level of musicianship was so high. All I had to do was turn up the faders and that sound was already there. JW is the man!

The CD is still available from cdbaby.com and also from my website, www.dekedickerson.com.

Not listed on the website, but I have them--nice 11X17 promo posters featuring JW and his Bigsby. For collectors of steel guitar "pinups" these are available for $5 postpaid, just email me on the list.

If you ever have the chance to go check out JW with the Lucky Stars or the Bonebrake Syncopators, don't miss 'em. Both acts are fantastic.

I have been enjoying that CD since it came out. It's got great playing and a great sound.
I have wondered if it is an analog recording right to tape. Deke, care to share?

Hi mark, yes, on the inside of the CD booklet I talk about the recording chain, and it may look like some fake retro b.s., but in this case it's actually true. The JW record was recorded live to an Ampex 350 2-track recorder, no overdubs, just really great players playing great instruments all together in a room.

I've had a lot of people tell me it's a great recording, but seriously, it's one of the easiest things I ever did. I just turned up the faders and that sound was already there. Thanks for the compliments!

Deke. i remember our days on the old ampex board that howard sanner had. i have not been there in ages. so nice to see that you are keeping your ampex gear on the air and recording with it. the cd samples sound great...no wonder....an ampex 350...the bomb..

Thanks Deke
I coulda looked at the jacket, and I probably did when I first got it. Its great to have artists out there still doing analog, they are true artists when they can record in that context. Some will claim there isn't a difference sonicly between digital and analog, but I beg to differ. Keep it up.

Somehow we have to get you in Madison, perhaps with Joel Patersons trio
