I am in the process of putting together a new cd featuring Julian Tharpe and Curly Chalker. These cut's are from 'Dave Burley's Cavalcade Of Guitars', the show I produced in 1976 in Dallas, Texas featuring five pedal steels along with Les Paul and four other jazz guitarist plus Slam Stewart, Louis Bellson and Johnny Gore.
It takes a lot of work to get all the particulars worked out on these recordings and as most know, there is no money in it.
I produced a lot of recordings in the seventies featuring Julian, Curly, Buddy, Doug and Maurice and I don't want to leave this world without these recordings being released. A couple have been released, 'Jimmy Bryant and Buddy Emmons Live' and a reissue of 'It's The First Time.'
The cd featuring Julian and Curly will feature Julian on two cuts, 'Danny Boy' and 'Ode To Billy Joe.' Danny Boy is the cut that the legendary bassist, Slam Stewart, stepped up on the stage to play bass with Julian. Curlys cut's include 'There's That Rainy Day,' 'What Now My Love' and 'Blues In B Flat.'
I hope that this is something that you all will be interested in. Some great E9th and C6th playing by the best.
All I care for myself is to be able to pay for the production costs. I don't need anything for myself. I'm too old to spend it anyway.
This cd should be released by the end of July.
Thanks,
Dave A. Burley
