Leggs???

I have a '59 Silvertone 1312 lap steel. It's the one pictured in my avatar. It's in excellent condition, no major marks or scuffs, all electronics work and it sounds great. I am considering installing legs on it but not sure if this is a good idea due to changing the sound or lowering its value. Any thoughts on this? Thanks, George

Why not just get a stand for it? It would be a lot easier, and you wouldn't have to modify your guitar, which could potentially affect both the value and sound.

I thought of that but really couldn't find one. Most of them seem to be very heavy or expensive ($200+).

Or, you could use a keyboard stand. The last one I got was $20 on sale.

Keyboard stands can work great, this one is very adjustable and sturdy for $60.

Thanks for all your input. The prevailing opinion is to not modify the guitar but get a stand. That was what I was thinking but wanted to get some other ideas from others. I'm going to invest in a stand. Plus the stands reccomended here are a lot cheaper than buying legs and sockets!
Thanks again all for your advise! George

Kevin,
Yea, I really like mine, too. I'm tuned to C6th. what tuning are you using?

I believe an open (E) for blues but I'd have to dig it out of the storage area for my instruments. I have an 8-string that I have tuned to a C# minor I like real well. I do have a Gibson lap I keep tuned to C6th as I'm used to it from pedal steel. A6th is also a good one for the "old time" sound.

Hey Everyone,
Tom and Rockey, I'm interested in buying the "On-Stage Stands Pro Platform Keyboard Stand" from MF. The bed of the stands looks to be made of metal. Do you guys recommend applying some sort of felt to prevent scratching the back?
Also, will the guitar move around If not held in position with velcro or some other method?
Thanks,
R.Y.

If you were going to buy the hardware to install legs; it would not be much more work to install that harware on a cradle fitted to that steel.
You could even add 3 small bumps on the cradle to elevate the Steel slightly above the cradle to allow the body to be more resonant.
