I have a National Chicago Lapsteel like yours and I notice the lower strings seem to not have as much volume as the higher strings.

I've had the guitar since new in 1949. Any suggestions? do you know of anyone that might provide service??

I suspect some Pickup Service is needed.
Suggestions??

I have a pic of a "Chicagoan" in my catalog, but it shows a cover over the pickup. so no clue on which it is. Maybe it's the Supro style with the two sets of holes in the top plate(?) If it is, the two little magnets across the ends of the coil may just need re-magnetizing.

I believe these pickups have individual pole pieces which are just small screws. I've adjusted quite a few of these. You simply get a small (very small, like for fixing eyeglasses) flathead screwdriver and raise the screws for the bass strings until you're happy with the balance. Then you can go ahead and check the balance of each string and make the necessary adjustments. Be careful--if you break the screw you will be sh*t out of luck.
