i know 5th strings (smallest wound string .024 ) can be a bit fuzzy and unbalanced (quieter) on some steels. Its particularly so on my 72 P/P. But ive played some other steels where it's not a problem. Can anyone explain why it's such a problem with some and any possibilities to remedy this? (its not a bur) some string swaps make a slight difference but its still more or less there.

case anyone's interested...put a plain .024 on and everything solved beautifully. no fuzzyness and volume balanced perfectly. fortunately all tuning adjustments with throw differences worked out too this has been annoying be for ages, shoulda done this long ago.
