Can anyone please tell me how a stutter switch operates? Does it open the circuit or short it to ground?

Thanks,

Dave

I put one of those on a steel about a year ago. I shorted it to ground, but unless I'm applying distortion, it makes a loud pop and doesnt' sound so great. Let me know how yours comes out.

What are you using as a switch?

Thanks James and Lee.

I started with a search and there is a lot of discussion on them but not how they operate. I believe James is correct in that they should short the circuit to ground. I'd like to see an old Gibson diagram from the console steels. That should show it.

David use a non polarized electrolytic cap on the ground side.
As it shorts to ground it absorbs the pop/discharge

Hey there gang,..I used to have what I called a "shotgun switch",on two of my lap steels.I used it to get the sound that "Speedy West", used on his steel guitar, if any of you are familuar with his recordings..This was a pushbutton switch located on the guitar so you could operate it with wour right hand, & very quickly go from off to on, just as fast as your finger could move up & down,..This was connected to a capacitor the same one that gives you
the deep bass sound. So when you push down on the switch your sound goes to all bass, ,let-up & your sound goes back to normal. I`m not a electrical nerd
but a radio repair man installed them for me after I described what I was trying to do..the only "New" item was the little round, spring loaded PB switch.
