Dear Forum members, first of all I want to say HI to all of you, I joined the community today. My name is Stefan (from Germany) and after playing electric guitar for 20something years, I started to play a steel (WBS 10string E9)a couple of weeks before. I fell in love with the pedal steel some years ago when I began listening to alt.country CDs and rediscovered my old Dylan & Young records. I think no other instrument comes even close to the incredible and deeply moving sounds of a well played pedal steel guitar. As you surely can guess, my playing at this very time is less than stellar and I'm really not very good at tabbing out pedal steel lines.
So, I want to be able to play "Windfall" and "Tear Stained Eye" by Son Volt (Eric Heywood on steel, Record: "Trace"), and I hope, it's not too impolite asking for tabs in my very first post, but if any of you have the tabs, I would really appreciate it, if you would post them here.
Thank you very much in advance and best wishes, glad to be here !

Hi Larry,
thanks for the kind welcome. Great to be a part of the SGF; I hope that someday I will be able to give something back to the forum. Right now I'm just hungry for informations and simply not good enough on the steel to contribute something that has any sense
Kind regards, Stefan |

As a 6 sting lead guitar player/slide,(40+ years) I thought PSG would come easy.
WRONG !!
Hang in there. It takes a lot of work, but well worth the effort,to produce those precious sounds, especially once you start making them yourself.
Your guitar theory will take you a long way, giving you an advantage, but....technique will drive you mad.
I would recommend the book by Winnie Winston and Bill Keith, "Pedal Steel Guitar". Available here, from the forum catalog,
and IMHO "the best, and most informative" primer out there.
Practice, and then practice more. Eventually it'll come.
Good Luck
Rick
PS: sorry No tabs |
