I bought this at a yard sale today for ten bucks,It works fine, needs a little of that spray cleaner for the pots but it's quiet ,Would this be a good pre for steel guitar?

Quite a find, Stu !
I have a reissue and I`ve used it as a steel preamp a few times but I find it overloads a bit too easily .
As a line level insert it`s fantastic. I use it in my studio as an EQ now if I need to eq an ingoing signal. _________________ Olli Haavisto

Yup, Stu, you definitely scored! The Furman makes an excellent steel pre, way back before getting the Randall combo amps I used a Furman for many years, driving a Lexicon PCM70, a 200watt amp and a JBL K130. They are quite clean at normal levels but if overdriven have a nice crunchy growl. |

I used one in a rack setup with a Furman reverb unit ( real spring reverb in a 1 rack space unit), Peavey M2000 power amp, and JBL K130 in custom JBL spec'd cabinet. Worked great. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . Didn't Buddy use one of these years ago for awhile?
I thought I read that somewhere. |

I remember reading that, too. Here is the Furman plugged into the low gain input of a Session 400. Stu - also try using the Furman as a Matchbox by patching it between guitar and volume pedal with about +6 dB gain.
