Just wandering if anyone has had any dealings with Craiglist. I put my Emmons on there yesterday and have been getting these really wierd emails from people. One email said (is this still for sale, is it broken and does it come assembled)(another said, dont post this here, call me at --------.)

These do not sound like steel players to me. Just wandering if this is common for CL. Thanks

It's not uncommon. I recently advertised a circular saw and got four replys immediately. Three were for get rich quick plans - all directing me to the same site. "If you sign up here you will get rich and you won't need to sell your stuff!"
The fourth one was "Is it broken? It MUST be broken! If it was as good as you say, you would want to keep it. You are a scammer, Craigs list doesn't need people like you."
The next day I got some soft porn pics with the offer of 'better' stuff. "Just visit my site and sign up!"
I did sell the saw in the end but you have to expect this crap from Craig's List unfortunately. Not all the time but frequently.
The self elected CL police make me laugh but the others are just sad/boring.

That is why craigslist warns user to only do business face to face. CL is a play house for scammers of all sorts. Becareful who you do business with and DO NOT agree to paypal or anything else of that nature from a craigslist response. Make sure you meet a perspective buyer at a nutural location in a public place. CL Warns of all this in the terms of use. Good luck....J

Is that your black p/p?

Here is a common scam:

Hello,
Thanks for the prompt response and i will like you to withdraw the advert from Craigslist,i don't mind adding an extra $20 for you to take the advert down from craigslist so that i can be rest assured that am in hand of the item.I don't have time to come take a look. I will be paying via cashier's check, you don't need to bother your self with the shipment Ok,i will take care of that.So i will need you to provide me with the following information to facilitate the mailing of the check.
1.Your full name
2.Your mailing address
3.Your phone number.
I will have my mover come over as soon as you have the check

Have a blessed day

I get a few of these a day. This one is out of Alexandria Va.

I buy stuff from out of town on craigslist fairly often. I've had a few folks that just wouldn't deal with someone out of town, and I've had a few cases where I knew I was dealing with a scammer and backed off. I always talk to the person on the phone, and ask a lot of questions. If either me or they feel that something is the least bit fishy, I back off. You really have to jump in with both eyes open, use your head, and be careful.

I still think ebay is your better way to go!
I would not do 'Craigs' list unless i was going to meet someone and had lots of conversations, it's all a bit dodgy.

I've bought an amp and a steel guitar on Craig's List. I've also sold another amp and a guitar on Craig's List, with no problems at all. Always a cash deal. Larry

I just bought an Emmons D10 push pull off of Craigslist in Dallas. I spoke with the seller a number of times on the phone. This guitar didn't have a case, and I could tell from our conversations that having him ship this guitar was asking for trouble. I work for Air Canada, so I decided to fly down on my day off and collect the guitar in person. I paid him cash, face to face in the parking lot of DFW. We had a few beers and talked for a bit. It ended up being a very memorable 23 hour day, and I made a new friend. Craigslist is free so you have to figure that there will be all kinds of people (good and bad) on there. Bottom line is "buyer beware"

I have sold many items on Craigslist;never had any problems. You will get a few weird emails, and I would just ignore them. Stick with the straightforward requests to see the product.

I did sell my ZB student model a couple of months ago, to a pro musician out of LA (about 70 miles away). He came up to the house and we rapped a bit and he sat down and plucked with it. Super cool dude, and in the end he took it home at full price.
It was a solid deal for everyone concerned.

Good luck

I've had pretty good luck buying from CL. But all I ever got in response to any for sale ad I posted was a bunch of idiotic replies. I doubt I'll ever post anything on CL again.

I heard there is a money order scam going on, too.

A friend of mine was selling some drums on CL. Several people requested information and several offers were made. But in taking the items to get an estimate on the shipping he was told of a money order scam.

The money order looks so completely legit that even the bank can't tell, so they accept it. You send out the goods. Then two or three weeks later the bank finds out that the money order was a fake and demands their money be returned. Of course, by now the bank thinks you made the check yourself and are a crook. (Save emails from buyers.) And when you try to contact the buyer they never reply. So you lose twice: you are responsible to your bank for the money and your stuff is long gone.

If the buyer is out of town, perhaps use PayPal to receive payments. Even if you have to play a fee, there is steps that can be taken if it goes bad...

Good luck selling the guitar, Henry. If it doesn't sell there, try here. Very Happy

Don't cash your postal money orders at the Post Office.
Post Office branch passes counterfeit bills:
