I would like some advice on home recording, my family and I used to go to my friends studio years ago and record w/adat and tape, etc. then when cakewalk came out we started useing it w/ the computer,to record split trax and also some vocals, however It seems we always run into vairous problems with sound levels ,noise etc. I wanted to know a simple way to record,w/not so much equipment, something to do 3 vocals, and about4-5 instruments,I have not stayed up to date on the recording end , however I know their are different recording devices on the market I would like to use a recorder and not pro tools if possible so any advice or imput would be greatly app. Smile

Chris easy answer, whats your budget and what is the purpose of the recordings ?

Under $500 you can get exceptional 8 / 16 track units ,Tascam, Boss,Roland, Fostex, Zoom... under $750 a Tascam 2488 , 24 track unit, and of course over a grand opens up a new door. If $750 fits, my take would be a Tascam 2488. Many of the units only record 2 tracks at one time, if more "live" recording is needed be sure to check specs. Most have on board effects and processors. It's all good.

I have a 4 track, 8 tracks, 16 track and 2 versions of Cakewalk running, I like them all but I am partial to workstations and if I had to do it all over again it would be the Tascam 2488.

One final point, be sure that whatever unit you end up with has the ability to save , store and transfer data files to a PC and vice versa. Some can even convert to MP3 if that is a requirement.

good luck
