Last night, I had the good pleasure of going to Lake Walenpaupak to listen to my good friend Jody Carver.. his newly formed group was a huge success..Although I have known Jody since 1953 when he was a Fender salesman and one of, it not the best....wherever Jody performed crowds of steel players would come from New York City , New Jersey and Connecticut to listen to Jody's unique style..his syncopation and drive is what amazed those who listened to him back then.......Jody has not lost one iota of his great playing, he can tear up a pedal steel but his first love is his Fender triple neck Custom of which he masters...
His new group in addition to his other group Flight 616 is quite different as the sidemen read the charts that Jody collaborated with the Tenor sax player.........tunes like, Beyond the Blue Horizon..Sabre Dance..Holiday for strings where Jody shines on the above mentioned...I will be going back tonight to listen to my friend and his newly formed group which are tight as they go through the paces... The new group is Jody Carver and the Mod squad...which consist of Tenor Sax , Trumpet Drums, 2 Fiddles Rhythm guitar and a fine lead guitarist who naturally plays a Stratocaster, Vibes which add color to Jody's sweet sound and of swinging Hawaii his knowledge of music and how to handle a guitar less pedals amaze me, his great sounding Triple neck Fender round out a fabulous group..
I asked Jody if he would be there at the club every week and he said I don't know Richard..I may..I'll see how it goes...It's a great gig and to make it great is that I've surrounded myself with superb musicians...... |
