I went to see that D8 yesterday as it was only 8 miles from where I live. I did not bid because it was in a pretty knocked about state. I would rather pay a bit more and get one that did not need such a lot of work (some would have required pro attention ie. chromiun plating etc). I was puzzled by some deep circular scratches on the pans which looked like the tuners had been turned with some metal tool. Also note that the knobs on the tuners are different.
I vaguely knew the seller way back in our folk club days and I would not think that he would try to decieve anyone. If the pans were not genuine then I would tend to think he would not have known. He is an acoustic guitarist and I doubt if he played the D8 himself. He also invited bidders to go and see the instrument if they wished (which I did but he was not present) which is hardly the style of someone out to dupe folks.
My opinion for what it is worth is that the opening bid was over the top for the condition in which it was in. |

HI Ray, I wasn’t trying to imply the guy was trying to dupe anyone, as you say it was open to view. I was just a little thrown by a couple of things like the tuners. On closer inspection they appear to be two different styles. One set look like lollypop style while the others look kidney shaped so one set must have been changed at some time |
