There was a big country music festival here in Eastern Spain this past weekend called the "Mr Banjo Festival". In spite of the name, it was mostly good, dance-able honky-tonk stuff. Heather Myles was the headliner (assisted by Jerry Hogan on his JCH); she was preceded by Brian Sklar and the Texpistols, featuring some amazing twin fiddling between Brian and band-member Amanda Rae Price, along with Lionel Duhaupas of France on his natural-finish Emmons P/P; they followed singer/songwriter R.B. Stone, with whom I played a couple songs on dobro. Playing bass for Heather was Rick Schmidt from California, a way-fine steel man himself.
But the real blast was the jam session we all had Sunday night at the Jambalaya Club---Heather, Brian, R.B., members of both bands (sadly, Jerry Hogan had already gone back home to England). It was an immense pleasure for me to play steel until the wee hours with that line-up.
Just waiting for the pictures to get developed...
