It is hard for me to believe but Jimmy Roule has played almost all of the bashes. If I have been granted one pleasure in this life it has been watching a 13 year old grow up to be a super musician. It was evident when I first witnessed his playing way back when, that here was something special. My first encounter was at a Wallingford Conn. steel show that Jim Smith brought me too to sing for his set.I believe Jimmy Roule was 11 or 12 at the time.Jim Smith had already told me he would soon be leaving for Texas (actually he gave me 6 months notice). When Jim smith left I went through about 4 steelers and it was just hard to grow a "new right arm".I owe Jim Smith for the many great things his playing and friendship did for my getting established in Massachusetts. And I never would have met Jimmy Roule if he hadn't taken me to my first Mass Bash to sing for him again.Well it wouldn't have been as soon anyway..It would be a couple of years I believe but I ran into Jimmy Roule at a Jamboree and told him I was starting a new 7 nighter at Billy T'S.in W. Springfield.Jim was thirteen I believe and he was not playing any Guitar then just Steel.I still to this day can't believe that kids memory and knowlege of old Country and new. All I had to do is tell him the song I wanted to do and bam it was like the record, intro outro and solo and a lot of times better. "Little"Jim Roule well he isn't so little anymore.Jim chose a truck driving career but his playing could have taken him anywhere he wanted to go,Still could. Jim Sr. who is no slouch as a player himself and Sharon Roule Thank you for entrusting me and allowing me those early years of Jimmys playing. No matter what I have accomplished with my music my Highs are the great pickers I always had the best seat in the house to witness.(the stage)..People don't miss the Mass bash, and tell them Groucho I mean "Pepay" sent you. Jimmy always calls me Pepay ("french for Grampaw")

Country Joe,

I attended the same show in Wallingford that day. "Scotty" was there, as well as Guy Principato, who played "Misty" by request, on a double 6 string steel, having no pedals or knee levers. Jimmy Roule played "Bars Of Steel"; a Lloyd Green number that is outstanding, and is an excellent instrumental melody. Jimmy can fly low on the steel guitar today. He is a powerful force in the uptempo version of "Orange Blossom Special.
Thanks for your support.

Joe,

When Jimmy Roule was 14 (about 23 years ago) his dad would take him around to the clubs to hear the local steel players. Jimmy would call me: Mr Beaumier... now I call him Mr Roule! He's a great player, a natural musician, and he's the best kept secret in the steel guitar world. Thankfully we have the Mass Steel Bash to show off Jimmy's talents. He's one of the fastest speedpickers I've ever heard, and I've heard a lot lot of 'em!

Joe, I remember hearing your band with 13 year old Jimmy Roule on steel. You gave Jim his first steel picking gig and that's commendable. Nowadays Jimmy's as big as a bull and as strong as one. I remember the time he picked you up, threw you over his shoulder and carried you out of the club. He did the same to me later!
