I'll be helping demo the Carter-Starter on Saturday & Sunday of NAMM, to give Billy Phelps a little break from the action. I'm sure that Billy and John Fabian will be there from beginning to end.
Stop by and say "hi"...
Thanks,
David Spires
PS - John Hughey will probably be playing at Legends on Saturday night. I would sure add that to your list of places to go. |

I'm not familiar with Leroy Troy but he's supposed to be at the Midnight Jamboree.
I received an email from Muriel Anderson and the tickets for the "All Star Guitar Night" go on sale today. Les Paul is the special guest.
I hope my source comes thru for NAMM tickets too. |

O.K. Guys......
I've had my request for a pass out here for a few days now and no replys. Am I on everyone's poop-list or is the venue only for the very elite persons ??
Us,the Joe Smuck, players do a lot of business with the OEM folks. Why is it that we cannot get passe's to this venue ??
Still needing a pass for the Namm Show !!

Hey Bill,
I have been out on the road for a few days, and didn't see your reply. I don't have any extra passes for NAMM. Remember, the show is for retailers to check out the new stuff, so NAMM can be pretty strict with passes. As in anything, some companies play by the rules, and some bend them as far as they can... Dad went to the show last year, but he is a NAMM member, and had to pay a pretty penny for 4 passes.
If you don't have any luck from this thread, you might try someone at the local Sam Ash or World Music Nashville stores. Just an idea...
Thanks,
David Spires |

While you're walking between steel booths, check out my buddy, Joe Dalton, at the Aria guitar booth. He plays like he needs the money. |

Hey.... All you Retailers,
Please remember that if we,the "Joe Smuck" players, cannot look and see whats new and improved,We wont be purchaseing it at your stores !! You guys need to remember that we are the reason your are still in business. It's not just the hi-profile Steel players that attend this show, but the many varied guitar,piano,drummer,hi-teck computer music, etc, etc folks that drive the market.
While I realize you don't wish the show jammed with riff-raft foks just wanting to cause cause problems, you must realize that we,the music enthuastic people must have a venue to see whats new and available for us.
The folks that set up the NAMM shows need to accept the fact that this show must be made more accessible to us,the music people. This means haveing passses avalable at the music shops, dealers, etc, etc. I don't think that riff-raft kind are going to go to a dealer for a pass just to cause trouble at the show. Thats too much work for em'.
Hey, Guys..... Make this thing more accessable to us !!

Bill,
Please forward your ideas to NAMM at www.namm.org I don't believe that anyone here on this forum can change NAMM's policies.
All musicians do have a place to see new equipment - music stores & web sites. I don't wish to post anymore on this subject. Actually, I'm sorry I ever started replying in the first place.

We won't be going this year but I recommend everyone checking out the Taylor guitar room and catching Doyle Dykes' set. He is one of the finest fingerstyle players in the world and sweetheart of a guy. You'll become a fan forever. |

Bill, you're off base on this issue. NAMM is not designed for the general public to view new equipment, it is for the manufacturers to showcase their products to the retailers. ONLY a retail merchant can make a purchase at these shows. Anyone other than a retail merchant at a NAMM show is like a fish out of water. It's fun sight seeing for an hour or so but afterwards it loses it's glitter rather quickly. I went last year but doubt if I go this year because it is not geared toward retail customers and certainly not toward steel guitar as Carter Starter, Sierra and George L are usually the only ones related to steel guitar. Peavey might have one Nashville 1000 on display. This is a reatiler's show, not the general public's show. |

Thanks for all the info. I am a friend of Joe Dalton and he has missed the last two so it will be good to see him again.
Les Paul will be at the Hall of Fame on Saturday. |
