Many years ago, 1956 to be exact, Mary Kaye was asked to do a promo, posing with a new, one of a kind, “Blonde Stratocaster”, with Gold Hardware. Mary was doing a movie and Don Randall and Leo Fender asked her if she would like to use the Strat for a promo picture.
Mary was playing a D’Angelico at the time, and after the promo shot, that Stratocaster became known as the “Mary Kaye”, when in all reality; Mary Kaye did not continue to play the particular guitar she posed with in the Fender Promo. Mary went back to her D’Angelico.
That guitar was intended for someone else who was NOT a famous guitarist, but; his friend saw to it that, THAT very same guitar was presented to someone we have all heard about on this Forum from time to time, and the story which is a beauty is documented in “Vintage Guitar Magazine”, August Issue, which is on news-stands now!.... Get a copy and follow the journey of this now “Famous” Stratocaster and you will read what many of us already know of one of our Forum members!.... He knows his Fender History, because he IS just that!....
Get a copy. I know you will enjoy reading it!
Thanks,
