Guitar and Steel Picker

Post by Bill Maynard »

I believe that was Hank picking like the Travis style and the steel picker was Curly Chalker.

The guitar player sounds very different.

Seems like the steel player may be Jim Murphy :?:

The guitar player was , no doubt, Merle Travis himself in person!! I do believe, don't you know!!!

I wonder where and when this was recorded. The whole pr0duction sounded very disconnected with instruments playing over each other. Sometime even the "Greats' have a bad day !

Billy.i don't have the LP. So I can't say for sure. But I'm thinking 71-ish. In Nashville. At which studio. I have no idea. Maybe this will bump it to someone that knows for sure.

I have the 1973 Dot LP in my collection, and there were no musician credits given.

I'm guessing that no one wanted any!

The one and only Curly Chalker is handling the steel.

The Guitar Player Sounds A Great Deal Like Jackie Phelps Or It Could have Been Curly on Guitar Also. Curly was an Accomplished 6 String Finger Picker and Owned a Gibson ES- 355 TD. I'll bet Gregg Galbraith knows the answer for sure.

It sure isn't Merle Travis, The Tone is all wrong. Isn't Travis's sound.

Sounds like Hank doing his own guitar playing. This style of tune was something that Hank could have easily performed live or in the studio. Hank and Merle were picking buddies. Could of been Chalker on steel. Hank and Merle were explored in a thread on the chetboard awhile back.
