My steel is packed ...

... along with everything else. I got a job transfer and I'm moving to Ogden, Utah. The house is 95% packed and the movers will be here in the morning. I don't know much about Ogden, Utah other than it is really beautiful but I am worried that there will not be any musicians to jam with. I was up there last week to close on a house and before the day was done three mormons visited me to invite me to their church. I don't know much about mormons (LDS) but saying the area is predominately mormon is an understatement. I hope I don't offend them when they see me grilling some steaks in the back yard with a beer in my hand!

Any steelers out there from Utah? Any associations in the Ogden/Salt Lake City area?

I gotta get back to packing. Moving sucks but I gotta go where the job is. Sure am going to miss Phoenix. I was looking forwar to joining the Southwest Steel Guitar Association in Phoenix. Great bunch of folks!

Hi Terry,

Yes there is a steel player that owns GUITAR CITY just off of Interstate 15 in the community of Centerville approximately 10 or so miles south of Ogden. He playes a Sierra U12 and just took delivery on a new Carter U12 a few weeks ago and says he loves it. As far as the Mormons Church of JESUS CHRIST of Ladder-Day Saints go they will treat you right. Iv'e been a Mormon all my life. I live here in Rigby, Idaho about 175 miles north of Ogden. I don't get down that way too often, however I just happened to be there a week ago to an annual horse sale.
As far as the Bud-beer that will take care of itself down the road. Ha! They won't be to hard on you.!!!!

Just did a little re-search in my steel telephone and computer adress book and remembered a couple of other names. Dixon Rudolph in Kerns, Ut a suburb of S.L.C. and works of DOD Electronics that manufacture the different effect units. Yeah and Alvino has been a Mormon all his life. I believe he is in his 90's now. Haven't seen him in a while. So there is a few of us Steel Mormons around and about.!! My good friend Audie Shields in Nashville and an acomplished steel player since the age of 10 is also a Mormon dang it ! He visits Lloyd Green now and then. Well I better stop talking about whose is Mormon on the announcements section or b0b may switch this to steel players.

I played an 'Always - Patsy Cline' in Cedar City three years ago (at the Utah Shakespearean Festival - a beautiful theatre) and it was my first time in that part of America.

A couple of the band guys were active LDS but, once I made my position clear, they gave up on me! I was amazed that even check-out personel at the supermarket would engage me in conversation - when they learned that I was visiting from out of town, they immediately enquired as to whether my wife and children were with me

! It seemed almost incomprehensible to some of them that a fifty-plus man would actually have neither....

A fellow-forumite, Mac Lloyd, came to the show and made contact with me (where are you, Mac?) - I enjoyed meeting him.

Back then, I used to enjoy the occasional beer. It wasn't actually 'dry', but the ABC was almost hidden from sight, and wasn't allowed to display any neon signs - 'Sherlock' Rettig found it ok, though.....

Hey, it is a small world, indeed..
I know Dixon Rudolph VERY WELL, I should, he was my roomate when I lived in SLC. The man is a WIZZ when it comes to electronics.(great player too) He owned a D-10 MSA "Classic" when we roomed together. OLD friend of mine...Would LOVE to get in touch with him. We both know ALL the steel players in that area. If you have a way to get ahold of Ol dixon, I would sure appreciate getting in touch with him. E-mail me and let me know. There are about 15 steel players in the SLC area when I left there in 1989. There is a place that was popular for players, and it was called "Marks Lounge" at 33rd and State St. Another was a place called "Squire Lounge" at 13th and State St. The Latter was quite a "rough" place to say the least. I had to lay my "9MM' on top my amp every time we played there. This place was a place where the Indians and Mexicans hung out.
Need I say more?

Thanks to all for responding. Well, the truck will be here any minute now and I have to power this computer down and pack it up. I'll be leaving in the morning driving a Ford Contour with my wife and 15 year old daughter (both hate country music and bluegrass), a 90 lb. Boxer, a cat, two cockatiels, and a chameleon. It's gonna be a great adventure!);
