Hi! What Hz should my tuner be set at for E9 pedal steel tuning? Thanks for help! matthew Wilson Muttering

Matthew,
I think you mean tuner CALIBRATION. As far as I know, all tuners are precalibrated at the factory to Concert Pitch A=440.0. If it's a new tuner you shouldn't have to adjust it. However, if you happen to know it needs to be calibrated, their should be an adjustment to change the setting.

Since you are asking what HZ for the E9th tuning, I hope you understand that A=440.0 is the universal standard for ALL steel guitar tunings. But, their are rare situations when a stringed instrument would have to alter from A=440.0, usually because another instrument in a band or orchestra, is not at the standard A=440.0. A good example would be an electronic piano.

Great question, Matthew, and the answer porovides a delightful romp through musical history. While A=440 Hz has been the de facto tuning standard for most western musical endeavors for many decades now, it was not always so.
