We had such a great time at the Dallas Steel Show. Thanks so much to Albert Talley for having us. It was good getting to visit with and meet so many of you.
As I said, my part of the entire show was dedicated to my dear friend Duane Marrs. He was a good man and so good to so many of us. Duane would be so proud of the way Jeff Surratt has used his ideas, along with many of his own to build these great “Show Pro Guitars".
It was fun to hear so many great players. Just to mention a few, I really enjoyed Ronnie Miller and The Pridesmen. I also love to hear Tommy Dodd play. I am just not too sure about that “chick singer he had on Sat. night”. (Actually she was pretty darn good. Does anyone have a number on her?) It was fun to see and hear Johnny Cox. He always plays good. I also enjoyed hearing Albert pick with the Swing Band.
I learned to play from the RCA album of Johnny Bush’s "Whiskey River”. I love to hear him sing. My second steel guitar album was “Diggin’ Doug”. I consider Doug Jernigan one of the masters of our instrument.
Speaking of masters, every time I hear Paul Franklin play, he amazes me. Paul has done so much for steel guitar and his dad’s guitar has put lots of groceries on my table. I appreciate you both so much.
Thanks to all the guys that played with me, including Hank Singer, Jim Hartley, Joe Manuel, and the Dallas Staff Band.
It was a great weekend and Albert has so graciously already invited us back next year.
You have all been so kind to us on the Forum. Thank you for the nice words.
Sincerely, Mike & Joanie _________________ Mike Johnson

Mike it was great to meet you @ the TSGA show. You are a great player yourself. I have admired your playing since you were on You Can Be A Star. In fact you were the only reason I watched each week. It was a great support band as a whole.
Thanks for showing me the fishing song thing, it really helped. I still need a little work on the first part. I thought I had that part until I saw you play it. You were very gracious.
Your support band was great at Dallas and I am enjoyed Jonnie's CD. She is a keeper.
Thanks for coming to Dallas.

Mike I'm sorry I didn't get to see you in Dallas. It's been a long time since we met at the Bobby Helms picnic in Indiana. You were a great player back then and have become a steel guitar Superstar. If you only had held on to that '56 Chevy. |

Mike
I enjoyed some of the same artist you did. Johnnie & Joan Cox have always been 2 of my favorites. Franklin you can't beat, and Wright is always a winner. Then there were the Cajun boys and my personal friend Jody Cameron. There was one player in the Sho Pro booth I had a chance to watch play and thoroughly enjoyed & that was Mike Johnson. What a joy & thrill to see and hear. I would love to be able to have that talent.
Hope to get to see you again.

Mike, I'll have to check the liner notes from my old vinyl, but I know Weldon Myrick is one of the steel players on that Johnny Bush album. I can't recall if there were multiple players on that album or not. Great music! _________________ HagFan

Mike,it was a real treat to see you in Dallas. You and that bass player"Curley" really play and sing great. We really enjoyed your sets.Seriously, Cyndy and I enjoyed the visit with you and Joanie so much. You are both such nice people and we appreciate you taking the time to visit.
I read years ago where Weldon said he did Whiskey River and wasn't happy with the ride. He took Hal Rugg to the studio to listen and Hal suggested and played the ride for him. The next day Weldon went in and cut that perfect ride that we all struggled to learn as kids. I'm with you-when I first heard Johnny Bush sing "What a Way to Live" I was so excited I couldn't wait to get the album. Still love his singing.
Hope to see you soon, Duane and Cyndy |

Mike,
You and Joanie truly light up any steel guitar show!! Nothin' like that good ole country sound when YOU play steel and Joanie plays guitar and sings! We listened to your CDs going and coming back home from Dallas almost non-stop.
I'm sorry I missed seeing you guys after Tommy's set. I wanted to personally thank Joanie for making Tommy's dedication to Clyde so special! We really, really do appreciate it more than you know.
Hope to see you again soon!

Mike,
Thanks for the kind words about liking to hear me play. (I know your mother thinks highly of me too.....(inside joke)).
I sincerely thank your lovely wife for helping make End of the World a very special song for my dear friend Clyde B. who recently lost his wife. Joanie is one of the finest "chick" singers I have ever had the opportunity to play for and she knocks it out of the park on every song. You and I are very lucky to have married way over our heads.
Thanks again my friend. I love your pickin'. Congratulations with all your well deserved success in Nashville.

Hey Joanie & Mike,
Along with my surprise from Jean H. your sets on Friday and Saturday were the high point of the TSGA show for us. We also enjoyed the visit.
That Sho-Pro looked and sounded great, As did the "girl singer" better keep her away from Bowman..
Love you guys, Ginger & Ronnie |

hey Mike it was nice to meet you in the Show Pro room, and I hope you didn't mind me having a play on your fabulous guitar ... Thats the first time I have had a chance to try out one of Jeff's guitars and it was very impressive - it helped that your setup was pretty similar to mine too
Thoroughly enjoyed your set too - it was outstanding. _________________ 14'Zumsteel Hybrid D10 9+9
