Page 43 of the Rickenbacker Book by Richard Smith shows a prewar double six string with a much deeper body than the post war models shown on page 44. The guitar in the photo is in all probability a prewar model. I sure they must be easier to tune with far neck being on a much higher plane. The additional weight of the body might be a disadvantage though.

I have one like like this. Tuning is no problem but the aluminum body is heavy. I weighed it a long time ago, I think it is 15 lb. The biggest problem is with the outside neck so much higher it doesn't balance well unless it's close enough to my body that the inside neck is unplayable. I usually use a stand or table.

It sounds good enough that I'm willing to put up with any inconvenience.
