This guitar plays beautifully and has that haunting Fender tone thats hard to describe..
The pedal action is very good. Not as soft and precision as a 2010 guitar, but as good or better than anything around when it was new.
Its a joy to play, and its STAYS in tune.. Its tuning stability truly does rival a modern steel.
Doesn't break strings either!
It has 6 floors and 3 added knees.. The knees are rather primitive, but are really very well done, and well thought out, and use all Fender cable pull parts.
They were probably put on decades and decades ago, when you could still buy factory parts for these guitars. You can't fold them under like most knees, you must remove one wing nut on each lever. Takes about 30 seconds each. They certainly can be brought up to date if you wanted to.
It plays and tunes beautifully so I left it as I got it.
This guitar was an unworkable basket case when I got it, and I worked 2 solid weeks to bring it back to life, and she rewarded me with the vintage Fender pedal steel of my dreams.. This is a wonderful old steel with "that" sound. I wish I could keep it, but I don't need 3 steels, and The Desert Rose I have in mind will be able to capture much of the Fender's "sonic territory"... I hope..

Add to that the many hours of labor, in disassembly, assembly cleaning, polishing, lubricating, adjusting, fabricating etc, and its a fair deal on a VERY rare guitar.
800's are tough to find, and an 800 with 3 very nicely functioning knee levers is not easy to find at all.
$900 takes this crusty but beautiful, vibey, toneful and reliable old Fender 800 home!.. Comes with original HSC..
Bring a buddy, you'll need him carrying this thing up the basement stairs!!
