First of all, I wasn't quite sure which section to post this thread, so if it's wrong
then I apologize ahead of time.
I'm getting ready to send just the amp of my Vegas 400 down to Peavey in Meridian, MS.
I live in MA.
The "head" measures 25"L x 10"W x 8"H and comes in at just under 20Lbs.
Rounded off, UPS wants $80. FedEx wants $11.
I'm pretty sure about these rates. What gives
here with this huge discrepancy?
I think FedEx shipping will take 2-3 days longer than UPS, granted, but does this justify a $70 gap? Whoa Whoa.
Local electronic techs say they do not want to attempt fixing my problem, and even Mike Brown admitted if the circuit board is really messed up, then, that's it!
So, I'll let the real McCoys [Peavey] look at it. And you don't have to guess who I'll be shipping the head with.
Just can't figure that big difference in price.

$80 is a bit steep for UPS, I'd recheck your figures, you may have typed something in wrong (like weight) or you may be looking at the '2nd day air' rates as opposed to ground. I remember shipping a 70lb package about the same distance, FedEx was like $38, while UPS was $57, with a declared value of $1200. Granted you will find FedEx slightly cheaper, and quicker for longer shipments, but not double the rates... |

Gino,
What you said about UPS's different shipping
options, day-wise, may be where I goofed.
I don't believe UPS uses the term "ground";
as FedEx does. It seems to me that UPS uses
a bit different terminology, open to interpretation [ie., confusing], and so if you are not a consistent sender, then it takes some doing to figure out, precisely, what they mean.
Seems like UPS has it down to the second when something will arrive.
Thanks Gino......I'll go back again, and see if I can't get these numbers more to coincide.

As I recall, UPS's term for "ground" is "brown". |

WOW . This is the price I would double check on. It sure is cheap -- too cheap for reality.

I just sent a package today from Eugene, Oregon to Denton Texas. The package weighed
21 lbs ( they charged me for 30 lbs )
Package was 24" x 17" x16".
I sent it UPS ground and they told me to expect 4-5 days. Charge was $26.00. |

I recently shipped just the cabinet of a Lloyd Green from Tallahassee, Florida to San Diego, California via FedEx 4 day ground. The guitar was wrapped in three layers of bubble wrap and then put in a box and filled with Styrofoam peanuts. The final carton weight was 34.20 lbs. With Insurance of $1,500.00 the shipping cost was $49.95. UPS would have been more expensive. I prefer FedEx personally. |
