Dave possibly Johnny Cox could answer your question. He knows a lot of things dealing with Curly and his guitars. |

I'd be interested in that also.
Maybe you could post it if you find it, Dave?
Thanks

My guess it was similar to this one but the 2000 doesn't have triple pulls.

I never knew Chalker played a Fender 2000. I always thought he went from the 1000 to the Sho-Bud. I know he was playing a 1000 in the early 1960s with Hank Thompson. |

I could be wrong about the 2000. Thought I read it somewhere on here. _________________ Dave Zirbel-

Curly did play a 2000. His album "Big Hits On Big Steel" was recorded on a 2000 although the cover had him sitting on a Sho-Bud Compactra100 amp behind his first Sho-Bud guitar which was a fingertip. (Just a side note, Curly was still living in Las Vegas when the album was recorded. The cover shot was taken in his kitchen in Vegas.) The setup on C6th to my knowledge was as the one posted above minus the knee levers. The Sho-Bud was the first guitar he played with knee levers. And Curly claimed the first guitar ever with verticle knee levers. He wanted vertical levers on the C6th so his left leg would be free to move around the seven floor pedals dedicated to his C6th neck. BTW, Curly always had C6th on the front neck. When he moved to Nashville in 1966 he did not play E9th. He soon learned it well though. The Fingertip Sho-Bud was the guitar that he completed his setup on. He used the same setup for the rest of his career. In the last year of his life Bud Carter built him a new Carter at which point Curly added two knee levers to his C6th neck. Both were duplications of pedals already on the guitar. Curly never played the Carter outside his home. The last time Curly played was about four months before his death. Big Jim Murphy was in the house band at Gabes Lounge in Nashville. Curly called me and asked if I would come load up his stuff and take him to sit in with Murph. They played the entire night together and both had a blast. Curly played great that night and it was the last time he ever played. He played his MCI through two Session 400 amps. Sorry for the ramble, just thought I'd like to share this info. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

Wow! what a history lesson for us. It must have been such an honor to have Curley as a friend. Glad you are still carying the torch. _________________ Bill Bailey

Ramble all you want Johnny! thanks for the info and the story!
So did he play a 2000 on the bootleg recording from the Ranch Inn in 1964? I'm not sure when the 2000 came out but it sure sounds like he has the low notes.
Coincidentally my 2000 came with the C6 on the front neck. It's a really fun guitar to play and the tone is unreal(IMHO). _________________ Dave Zirbel-
