How do you do a tribute to another steel player? Do you play only songs he made famous or had great success with? Do you try to play them in his style or your own? Think about it, it wouldn't be easy! Especially if that player is the one and only “Mister Moon”! With that opening disclaimer, let me say that it wasn't an easy thing to record this tribute to Ralph Mooney, but I wanted to do one and I sincerely hope I've done him at least a LITTLE justice with it. I decided to make the song selection a mixture of his songs, songs he helped make famous, and some of my own. I play them in a mixture of his style and my own. I know of no one who deserves tribute more than "The Moon", but it would take a dozen such CDs to even hint at all the tremendous accomplishments of his long career. That's why my subtitle states that this is just a "glimpse" of The Moon.
This is probably the most "Feel Good" CD I've ever recorded. It's upbeat and (I Hope) a lot of fun to listen to. I want to thank, Tommy Jennings (Waylon's younger brother), Fred Jack, Al Brisco, and Ol' Moon himself for participating in what I feel is a very special project which pays homage to a very special musical giant.
The playing time on this CD is 34:00
