DVD Camera 3" disc to computer editing, etc
I have a camera that uses 3" mini discs. After finalizing with the camera the discs will play about anywhere including my computer but I imagine the file needs to be converted for my computer to edit, etc. ??
When I insert the disc a window opens with a folder picture on it and says Files currently on the disc.
VIDEO-TS When I open it 6 files appear and only one has a thumbnail picture and it is entitled VTS-01-1.VOB VOB file 391MB
I can open and play it with Windows Media Player but I cannot do anything else with it. Do I need to change the format and if so what's a simple user friendly way of doing it ? Also, I purchased the camera used and they had lost the driver DVD for computer use (I have one coming) maybe that will help. Any comments appreciated . Bill.

Bill, if you have Windows Movie Maker as part of your Windows Operating System like I have, with Windows Vista, you can put you DVD in the DVD player and transfer your pictures or Videos straight to the Editing Program. From there you can Edit pictures, add sound, cut out what you don't want, add Titles, Effects, most anything you want and then save it to your hard drive. You can then make a new DVD or CD from your Edited pictures or video. I am not sure if Windows XP has Windows Movie Maker but I know Vista does.
If I can be of help to you during this process just let me know. I use this program and I don't have to convert anything, as long as what I want to edit is on a CD or DVD.
Hope this will be helpful to you.

Hi Roger and thanks for the info. I do have movie maker and I'm running windows vista . But when I try to use it - it says it's looking for the driver then it won't do anything else. I have tried to download a driver from sony and they say I already have it on my vista program. Like I said, I have ordered the original sony driver dvd that came with the camera new, maybe it will help when I get it. Hope so. Bill.

Well, it sounds like the camera is burning regular DVDs, so you can use something like Handbrake to get the video into another format.
http://handbrake.fr/
I don't do anything but the most basic video editing though, so you may get better answers. Feel free to try Handbrake though, it's free. (Get the "GUI" build rather than the "CLI" build).
