My fiddlin' friend Woody Vermiere mentioned that he used to play with this guy and that he was Roy Honeycut's son. He said that the guy was unreal on swing on the C6th neck and that he may still be out there. Anybody got any knowledge of this guy that they would share? |

I got to know him briefly after taking over a house band gig he'd had in Modesto. (Thanks again, Mr. Ivey, all these years later for passing that job along to me.) He'd only been playing a couple of years as I recall but could play the $%&%$ out of his Bb6th guitar.
The last time I saw him in Modesto, he'd just gotten his first D-10 and had fooled around with it just enough to feel like he was going to stick with the Bb6th S-12.
Anyone know if he spent some time playing fiddle and going by a different last name? (I know it might sound like an odd question but there's an interesting story behind it if this turns out to be true...)
Very sorry to hear about the demons, whichever ones they may be...
I've no clue if he'd remember me but please say hello for me if any of you are in touch with him. |

Willie is living here in Carson City. I saw him a couple of months ago, at a jam. I dont think he is playing currently........I sat in with him in a band a couple of years ago, and didnt know he was still in the area. He is a killer swing player. I dont have his number but I may be able dig it up

I am reviving this older thread because like David, I would like to be able to talk with Willie. That email addy has been dead for nearly two years. Willie used to reminisce how his father Roy, would take him to all of his club gigs when Willie was just a sprout. Willie would curl up next to his dad's amp (on stage) with a blanket and would be lulled to sleep by Roy's Steel. He always gave his pop credit for putting all that in his head at such a young age.
I think Mr. Wright will agree that Willie was an outright monster on the Bb6 Universal when he was just 15. Sadly, in the last 10+ years he forsaked the steel for 6 string guitar. I say say "sadly" because Willie is a natural on steel and though he is a fine guitarist, I would much rather see the man behind his Franklin, Sierra or the many other horns he has played over the years. Please PM me with any info you might have regarding Willie's whereabouts. Thanks........ |
