I will be conducting an E9th steel guitar seminar at the Augusta Steel Guitar Convention (American Legion Post 63, 90 Milledge Rd., Augusta Ga. 30904). I will present the seminar on Saturday April 17, 2010 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. I plan to discuss ways of working up steel guitar songs from sheet music, similar to the techniques that I use for my arrangements for the PSGA Newsletter. You really don’t have to be able to read traditional sheet music. Instead, I rely on chords and their positions, a unique way to develop your ears to hear melody to play a variety of songs. I will illustrate this skill with some traditional songs and some exercises to help you develop your own techniques and styles. I plan to show some ways to develop your listening skills so that you can identify some typical chord progressions that are used in hundreds of songs. If time permits, I also will discuss bar technique, developing steel guitar smoothness, and using delays to create a more full sound. I plan to gear the material to players of all levels. In addition, to help make the experience more productive, I will provide you not only with the sheet music and steel guitar tablature, but also with a CD that is filled with the material that we will discuss. Included on the CD will be my audio instructions, the rhythm tracks and the steel guitar blended with the rhythm tracks. You can leisurely take notes, knowing that the material will be waiting for you to practice when you get home. The cost for my seminar is $40. Please let me know if plan to attend. That way I will have the material for your reservation in my seminar. You can contact me at 303-797-1134 or through the Forum for more information.
