Does anybody use one?
I borrowed a Behringer MIC 200 vacuum tube preamp (modeling amp) and hooked it up between my steel and the 112, and it seems to be producing a clearer, better tone. I ran it directly into the regular input where I usually plug the guitar in.
Is this the right way to use a preamp?
Can I burn up the preamp in the 112 if I set the output of the MIC 200 too high.

Ray, I sometimes use my Evans HV preamp with my NV112, just to get a little more punch.

I know players that plug into the regular input of the NV112, but this means that you are now using 2 preamps. This generates more hum, IMHO.

I either plug into the power amp in or the POST return on the front of the NV112. The POST return allows me to use the internal reverb in the NV112.

Hope this helps.

Thanks, Bill. That would bypass the EQ section on the 112 though, wouldn't it? This preamp has no EQ except for a rotary switch for different instruments etc. (I actually like the keyboard setting the best)

Yes it would. I guess I did not understand what type preamp you have.
Most preamps have onboard tone controls.

I guess yours is really more like an "effects" unit.

If it is, you might want to try the "pre" eq patch.

Send: To your effects unit
Return: From your effects unit.

This way, your effects unit will not change the characteristics of your steel as much.

Ray I hook mine up like the recommendation for the Sarno Black Box. Guitar-preamp-volume pedal - effects?- amp.

I have an SVP tube pre-amp with a BFX1000 effects unit in its effects loop, that I run into my NV112. It gives me the boost I need as well as warms up the sound just a bit.
