OK... I know, a 200 dollar amp with a hundred dollar speaker...
I talked to the Weber guy here, and he says that they do REAL good with Blue Dog 75w speakers.
I'm thinking of getting two of them and "BD" in them for my stereo playing rig.
I liked the one Frontman65r I HAD..

I replaced the heavy speakers in my early 80's Traynor TS-100 with a 12" Blue Dog and a 12" Silver Bell! I also replaced a blown Crate 12" Celestion Greenback with Weber's version, which is way better. Eat your heart out Fender, cause last I hear Weber was making some speakers for Fender as well. I won't use anything but Weber speakers now. Rest in heaven Mr Weber, my dear friend!!! _________________ "Steel players are like fine wine, we get better with age" |

OK As time permits I'm gonna get two Frontmen 65rs and replace one of the speakers with a Blue Dog.
I'm doing this mostly for weight and future considerations in "health". I just am getting old faster than i planned..
The Frontmen with a small amount of front end softening with a Pod to ME are nearly what a 112 does at about half the price, less weight, and smaller. Two of them are about the right total wattage, and I was really surprised how good the one I had stolen sounded.
Bob at Eurotubes said that the BDs would do for them what they did for my Blues Jr that I'm SICK for having stolen.
Maybe this summer I'll get another one, but at 579 plus new tube sockets upgrade and a Weber, I just can't see shelling it out right now..
I've always got my Nashville 400 Session 500 and my Marshalls...

Well, I got it done today. Traded my PVCl50 boat anchor for a Frontman and half a senn609, paying for the other half and buying another frontman65r.
I dialed in the NOS Podxt and like the old 1.0x firmware.. I think two frontmen beat a 112 hands down for bass and otherwise..
Off for a Weber Blue Dog or Silver Bell tomorrow for one of the frontmen. Just one. I only mike one anyhow, and would like to hear the difference.
(Got the new Hilton and bar from FJ today and probably bulk cord and ends tomorrow..)
What a friggin ordeal replacing stolen stuff...
Makes you realize what's really important though.

OK I put a Silver Bell in the Frontman65r.
It's not an extra hundred bux worth SO FAR, but I remember my Blue Dog in the BlJr took a while to "open up".
The Fender speaker is pretty formidable.
Also it's a 50watt Silver Bell and the Fender Chinese is "rated" at 75w. The Silver Bell has a bigger magnet and is made of heavier 'paper'. Like I said, probably not worth putting in a 200 amp.
Not that it's a bad amp. The guts look really simple, and they hold a surprising amount of bass punch. MOstly the weight and size is a factor that pushed me into them. (And a THEFT)..
I think overall it's good to have a spare. I do hear the Silver Bell being "tighter", and like I said the Blue Dog took a while to improve about 30% over when it was brand new.
BTW I have the original Blues Jr and Hot Rod Deluxe speakers unused if anybody needs them for a reasonable deal...
