I tried to post this yesterday, but the server crashed when I attempted to do so!
Yesterday, February 9, 2010, Microsoft released 13 bulletins to fix 26 vulnerabilities in Windows and Microsoft Office. Of these, five are rated Critical, seven rated Important and one rated Moderate –11 bulletins affect Windows and 2 affect older versions of Microsoft Office.
Additionally, the Malicious Software Removal Tool (MSRT) was updated to include Win32/Pushbot. This Botnet is currently responsible for most of the spam in the world at this moment (well, it was before yesterday's MSRT release!). This Bot is also known as the Pushdo Trojan, which works in concert with the Cutwail spam engine. Interested parties can read about this nasty combo on this 5 part article at Trend Micro.
If your Windows PCs were set to automatically download and install Windows Updates, they should already have been installed and are waiting for you to reboot (must do). If your PCs are set to notify only, you must use an Administrator level account to fetch the updates manually, via the Windows Update link in Internet Explorer's "Tools" (IE 7-) or "Safety" (IE 8+) menu item.
