Yes, especially if you are looking for the very last raised graphics Bigsby made and one of maybe a handful of Bigsby steels that has never been modified by Bigsby himself or anyone else.
This is a very rare and cool example of a very rare and cool brand of guitar. And, this Bigsby steel is one of the very few whose original owner also ordered one of the five dozen Standel 25L15 amplifiers and that amplifier's whereabouts is known. As far as I know, there is only one joined set of original owner Bigsby Steel and Standel 25L15 in existence.
This Bigsby is wonderful to play and wonderful to collect. If I did not already have Bigsbys, I would buy this one.

I must have my priorities all wrong.

Priorities are relative. That is what keeps Sotheby's in business.
Interesting aside, just a few hours ago Sotheby's London established a new record high price for an art auction - $104 Million for a painting.

Back around 1960 as i recall i had a chance to buy a used D8 Bigsby from another steel player.I turned it down as the pedals were so noisy. Not the first mistake i ever made. Some time later i ordered a new tone volume pedal from Bigsby. Then later on the string broke when i was playing in Albuquerque.Every steel player and my self in Albu QQ tried to figure out how to re string it with no luck. And there were many great steel pickers there back then.
I finally sent it back to Bigsby. When i got it back he had inclosed a note telling me to keep my cotton picking hands out of it.I never knew if he intended that as humor or not.
As i had played many times in Southern Ca.and had a good friend Rex Endicott who lived near Paul i always regretted never going over and meeting him.
Any one one here who knew him personally and if he had a sense of humor or not? As i have read so much about him on the forium it has re kinled my intrest.

Actually, the $104 million price was for a six foot tall sculpture by Giacometti called "Walking Man."
From the tone of the eBay listing, it seems the asking price for this Bigsby is "soft"...if anyone ever wanted a Bigsby (and had a chunk o' cash) this might be the one...the only one!

it is a good thing I stopped bidding at $102 Million because I thought I was bidding on a painting. I prefer toothpick sculpture myself.

Oh crap! I accidentally pushed the "Buy It Now" button!
Just kiddin'. I was just thinkin' earlier that it would be easy to get sucked into collecting steel guitars. Then I saw this on eBay and thought...maybe not so easy.

Personally I'm more interested in hearing about the 25L15. Old Standels are very highly regarded. I'm not sure anyone has ever produced a schematic for that one. I'll have a look around.

My Bigsby is worth to me way more than that ( no, I didn't pay anywhere near that much ), one would have to offer me six figures before I'd even think of parting with it. And even then, I'd first ask the original owner's family if they wanted it back for free.
